NEW ORLEANS – Whichever team wins Super Bowl LIX, a John Carroll alum will get a ring.

When the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs face off in the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, four Blue Streaks will represent John Carroll University.

On the Eagles, Dave Caldwell ’96Jarrod Kilburn ’14, and former JCU coach Joe Kasper make for a JCU trio. And on the Chiefs, Jalen Myrick ’19 reps the Blue & Gold. This is an exact repeat for John Carroll of Super Bowl LVII, with the same faces on both sides.

This will be the ninth consecutive year with at least one Blue Streak represented in the Super Bowl (since SB LI in 2017), and the seventh consecutive year where at least one Blue Streak will win the Super Bowl (since SB LIII).

Three Streaks for Philly

The Eagles have enjoyed plenty of success this year under the leadership of Mount Union alumni Nick Sirianni. But the Blue Streaks outnumber the Purple Raiders in the Eagles’ leadership.

In the front office, David Caldwell ’96 works as Senior Personnel Director/Advisor to the General Manager. Under GM Howie Roseman, the Eagles have enjoyed outstanding success, first by winning Super Bowl LII in 2018 and winning the NFC Championship in 2023.

Caldwell remains in rarefied air in JCU’s NFL world. He is the second Blue Streak to reach the Super Bowl with two different NFL franchises, as he won Super Bowl XLI with the Indianapolis Colts and this is his second Super Bowl in Philly.

The only other Blue Streak to accomplish this feat was the winningest NFL coach of all-time, Don Shula ’51 (Baltimore Colts in SB III in 1969 and the Miami Dolphins in SB VI in 1972).

Jarrod Kilburn ’14 is another member of the front office. During the 2022 offseason, Kilburn was named a college/pro scout for the Eagles after spending the previous season as a scouting intern with the organization. From 2019-21, Kilburn worked as a production assistant for NFL Films. His scouting career began way back in 2012 when he interned in the summer for the Eagles, and he returned to Philadelphia in 2014 as a pro personnel intern during training camp. In other words, Kilburn has worked his way up in the league. He’s certainly bright, as the former JCU quarterback was an Academic All-OAC selection in 2013.

Former JCU wide receivers coach Joe Kasper has also worked his way up the ranks. After coaching at John Carroll in 2017, the Mentor native coached at Duke University from 2018-20. In 2021, Kasper worked as a defensive quality control coach in Philly before being promoted to the Eagles’ wide receivers coach. Kasper spent a one-year stint with the Miami Dolphins in 2023, flipping sides of the ball to be a safeties coach. This past offseason, Kasper returned to Philly as the Eagles’ safeties coach.

Myrick returns to the big game again

Jalen Myrick ’19 is in just his sixth season in the NFL and is already making his fifth Super Bowl appearance.

That’s a pretty good track record.

Myrick enters his sixth season with the Chiefs and his third as a College & Pro Scout with the Chiefs. Kansas City has earned a reputation as an organization with savvy personnel moves both in the NFL Draft and free agency, which has landed them in the Super Bowl yet again.

Myrick is now the fourth Blue Streak to take part in five or more Super Bowls, joining Josh McDaniels (9), Nick Caserio (9), Don Shula (6).
